Chapel of San Miguel

The Chapel of San Miguel was built in 1710, after the original church building, built in 1626, was destroyed by fire. The chapel's sculpture of San Miguel, the church's patron, was carved in Mexico in 1709. In 1859 the chapel became a part of Saint Michael's College, and today it is open to visitors.

Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe

Built in 1795, the Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe is thought to be the oldest shrine to the Virgin of Guadalupe in the United States. Archbishop Lamy dedicated the chapel to non-Spanish speaking Catholics in 1880.

St. Francis Cathedral

Saint Francis Cathedral was built in 1869 and features a French Romanesque style, a contrast to the city’s Spanish heritage. Stone from local quarries and from the La Bajada Mesa, located west of the city, was used in the construction of Saint Francis Cathedral.

Georgia O’Keeffe Museum

The Georgia O’Keeffe Museum should not be missed, especially if you’re a fan of O’Keefe, one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. The 13,000 square-foot museum is located in downtown Santa Fe, near the Plaza.

Palace of the Governors

The Palace of the Governors is now a Southwestern history museum, but it was originally constructed by the Spanish as a government building in 1610. It is the nation's oldest public building still in continuous use. Native American artists sell their wares under its historic portal.

Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi

The Cathedral of St. Francis of Assisi dates back to the late 1800s. It features Romanesque style stained glass imported from France, dual bell towers, Corinthian columns, frosted glass chandeliers and other adornments. In a small chapel is a religious icon revered by local worshipers: it is a small wooden statue of the Virgin Mary. It is the oldest representation of the Madonna in the United States. It has been carried to safety in and out of Santa Fe over the past 400 + years whenever there was war or an uprising of any kind.

New Mexico State Capitol

The New Mexico State Capitol Building was built in 1966 and remodeled at a cost of $34 million in 1992. The Capitol has four levels, three above ground. The floor of the rotunda displays the state seal. All the semiprecious stones decorating the seal and the marble of the surrounding walls and floor were mined in New Mexico. On the fourth floor, the Governor's Gallery features rotating art exhibits by New Mexicans.

Ski Santa Fe

Ski Santa Fe is located on the 12,000-foot Santa Fe Mountain and offers more than 1,650 vertical feet of skiing on 44 trails for beginning and experienced skiers. Skiing equipment rentals are available, as well as snow blading and snow boarding equipment. If you’re in town during the fall, take a scenic chairlift ride and marvel at the fall foliage.

Tesuque Pueblo

The current Tesuque Pueblo was built in 1694 and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Within the pueblo are a bingo parlor, an organic farm and traditional pottery studios. A certain amount of respect is expected when visiting any pueblo. Brush up on pueblo etiquette before visiting.

The Plaza

The Plaza is Santa Fe’s "Central Park.” It features green space, trees, benches and monuments and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Many shops and restaurants surround the plaza.

Loretto Chapel

The Loretto Chapel is well known for its "miraculous staircase." As the legend goes, a carpenter mysteriously appeared to build a staircase to the choir loft. He used no nails or supports in the construction of the corkscrew staircase. He disappeared as mysteriously as he arrived, and without payment for the work.
